Description: 81 volkswagen rabbit pickup Scirocco 1.8 liter 16v. It has a euro bumper, but it was removed to tow it home, the grey c channels were just to tow it.
Close ratio 4k 5 speed all seals, refilled with synthetic fluid, resurfaced flywheel, replaced clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing, about 2,000 miles ago
Brakes were replaced within 5,000
Lower scirocco k bar
Upper strut bar
Techtonics tuning header -flex joints replaced within 5000 miles. Flex joints were higher quality than the originals so should last much longer.
Oversize exhaust with 2 glass packs 1 tailpipe
Distributor was purchased new within last 5,000 miles
84 gti blue dash and interior with red stripe seats is dirty but would clean up fine. I have an extra drivers seat in good shape, Windshield was replaced recently, in perfect shape
Fiberglass protecto top canopy works and fits great. Needs one piece of glass as it is broken out. The glass is just flat glass so it shouldn’t cost much to replace. Hella 4 round light grill
2 brand new taillights 5,000 miles ago. Updated to 3157 style light sockets, the old sockets were brittle and the 3157s work perfectly. Needs fuel pump does not run right now. Fuel pumps on rabbits are outside of the fuel tank attached to the fuel line right below the tank.
Interior is dirty due to thieves who left the doors open after stealing the radio. Needs alignment, which is simple and adjustable. Would be easy to set at home with basic tools. One big dent on divers side bed. Not through the paint, could be fixed fairly easily with stud welder and slide hammer. This truck handles very well and has 2x the power of a stock rabbit pickup. It gets 30-35 mpg on 92 octane
This is a fun to drive truck that is good on gas and still can haul a decent load. I have hauled a snowmobile over 150 miles in it without a problem.
It is very responsive with its low gear ratio and close ratio transmission and 1.8 16v. Given the cost of parts, repairs and fuel on a diesel, it is probably cheaper to own than a diesel.
Truck was originally a diesel insurance is cheap
The truck does need some work, but it is a very solid mechanically. The engine is and drivetrain are in great shape. These trucks are getting very hard to find, and locating a good running scirocco drivers side intake 16v and 84 gti 4k transaxle is not easy or cheap.
I am offering the truck in as is condition before I get it running it for $2000. Once I buy and install a fuel pump and clean it up I will be upping the price. I will be starting on it this weekend so if you want it as is get ahold of me now. Thanks.
