Description: 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit Pickup Truck (1980 Grill and Front Bumper)
This truck has been my daily driver for 2 years. I used to work as a finish carpenter, and this was my work truck. Practically everything has been replaced or rebuilt on this truck, EXCEPT:
-the motor itself (no need)
-water pump (replaced before I bought it)
-control arm bushings (next on my list)
-2 motor mounts (which I have and will come with the truck)
-block heater (which I have but never needed to install. Started just fine through the last two winters of snowmageddon. Block heater will come with the truck)
-floorboards (More rusty than I’d like. Not an immediate necessity, but does need to be done. They are available through PartsPlace.com and they are the only rust spot issue on the whole truck.)
-shifter bushings (easy and cheap fix)
-Oil leak from oil filler cap (go figure)
***Things I HAVE replaced:***
-accesory drive belts
-3 of 5 motor mounts
-front brake pads, calipers, rotors, wheel bearings
-tie rod ends (outer & inner)
-rear shoes, drums, wheel bearings
-injector pump rebuilt (with upgraded Bosch green gaskets)
-valve cover gasket (+ a little RTV for good measure)
-k&n air filter (woohoo, big deal)
-brake master cylinder and reservoir
-tires ($400 set of Michelins. Again, it was my work truck)
-I’m sure I’m forgetting things. I have receipts for everything that’s been done.
Truck has all the AC components, but they are not currently hooked up (I don’t care about A/C). PAint has no clear coat. Re-sprayed by the guy I bought it from in his barn. 20/20 paint job (looks great at 20mph/20 ft away). Oil leaks from oil filler cap. Fully loaded with all my tools and truck boxes I’d get 47mpg commuting between Harrisonburg, Charlottesville, and Richmond. Top speed is 79mph loaded or not. My family has re-located to Richmond, and I’m back in the motorcycle mechanic industry, so I no longer need a work truck. Also, our second child is on the way and soon I’m going to need something I can carry two kids in! Please feel free to ask any questions. I know about cars, I know about VWs. Low-ballers will be ignored. I don’t want to sell the caddy, but it is time. If I don’t get any offers or serious interest, I’ll go the eBay route. Trying to keep the truck local. I hate that everything gets shipped off to California, but if that’s where the serious buyers are, I guess it makes sense.
Call b/w 8am-8pm. E-mail or text anytime. I have more pictures and will add them to this post soon.
